The late Alan Rickman was set to star in The Limehouse Golem – the film adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s novel released this month – however, his death this January left a sad, empty space where his character should be. Thankfully they cast another Potter alumni in his place, and who better than Bill Nighy?
Nighy – who played Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – took over Rickman’s role of police inspector John Kildare, investigating a series of brutal killings in Victorian London.
According to The Guardian, he said:
“I didn’t have any reservations. I was very proud to be considered in those terms. I knew Alan reasonably well and I was a great admirer, like everyone else who came into contact with him.
“At the time we didn’t really know how ill he was. Obviously it was a great loss to everybody.”
